For starters, I like that the orientation started near the time indicated on the flyer because it showed me that they valued my time and appreciated me being there.
I thought it would be a group of young people mostly from the suburbs of Detroit...
After brief introductions each attendee shared why they were angry with the situation of DPS, both financially and academically. After hearing the reasons others were angry my reason for being angry changed. When the meeting began I was angry because no one was being held accountable for how DPS got into its current situation. But after hearing why others were angry my anger collided with theirs.
By the end of my 482Forward New Member Orientation I was looking forward to working with people of like minds who wanted to change the system. I really believe we are going to make a difference in the future of education for generations to come.
